HKBSF has selected 2 blind marathon runners, Mr. Gary Leung and Ms. Kong Kwok Nin, together with two guide runners, Mr. Lee Chun Wang and Ms. Leung Ying Suet

and a supporting runner, Mr. Barry Tam, to take part in Boston Marathon 2015. They departed on 16 April for Boston so as to well-prepare themselves for the Run which took place on 20 April, 2015.

Over 30,000 people from different countries/regions participated in the marathon run. This is the first time that our blind marathon runners participated in such a large

scale overseas marathon. On arrival Boston, other than jet lag, they had to adjust themselves to the extreme cold weather condition. On the event day, it was zero degree with pouring rain. It was arranged in such a way that those who run within the same time frame would depart at the same starting point. Under such arrangement, it was difficult for them to overtake others. As a result, Gary finished the marathon run by 3 hours 37 minutes and Kwok Nin by 4 hours 21 minutes.

Although they could not make the best finishing time, we were pleased that our blind marathon runners could finish the full marathon well within the time frame set by the Organizer especially it was under such tough weather conditions.

The two blind marathon runners, Gary and Kwok Nin, were grateful to HKBSF and the Hong Kong Jockey Club for providing them such an opportunity and the funding to take part in this international marathon and to meet with and learn from international friends who are real good marathon runners. They sincerely hope that with the experience gained this time, they will be able to make better finishing time in the next international marathon.
