Noah’s Ark Rope Course Adventure Fun Day 2011

On November 13 (Friday), 2011, Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation held the Noah’s Ark Rope Course Adventure at Noah’s Ark in Ma Wan, Hong Kong. This activity was sponsored by the Social Welfare Department Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged.

The participants included 30 visually impaired HKBSF members and 32 volunteers from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Fut Nam College. The aim of this trip was to offer an opportunity for the visually impaired members to make new friends, challenge themselves and develop cooperation while experiencing the new, exciting rope course adventure.

On that day, the HKBSF members and volunteers gathered at Shek Kip Mei MTR Station and departed for Noah’s Ark by coach. Upon arrival, we were received by the staff members of Noah’s Ark. After the instructor had briefed on the training, the visually impaired members and the volunteers introduced themselves to each other and then played a warm-up game. The participants formed up 2 groups, “the tortoise” and “the crow”. During the game, Members of the two groups stood face to face and pressed their right thumbs together. When the instructor called out “tortoise”, the tortoise group tried to grasp the thumbs of the crow group and the latter tried to withdraw their hands as quickly as possible, and vice versa.

After lunch was the rope course group adventure. The instructor explained the responsibility of each post in great detail and demonstrated the usage of the safety equipment. The participants were again divided into two groups. When the visually impaired were navigating the rope course, the volunteers provided security protection and direction. All visually impaired members highly concentrated on their navigation, and the instructor kept encouraging them. Although some participants failed to climb to the top, their excellent performance clearly demonstrated their spirit of cooperation.

When the rope course adventure was over, the instructor asked the participants to share and summarize their thoughts and feelings about this activity. In the end, all took group pictures at the main entrance of Noah’s Ark, thus drawing the perfect day to a close.
