Hong Kong Open Winter Swimming Championship 2011

The Hong Kong Open Winter Swimming Championship 2011 was successfully held on November 27, 2011 at golden beach in Tuen Mun. The participants included 14 teams, over 2,700 swimmers, among whom were 2 visually impaired swimmers of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Choy Wai Kin and Lui Shou Yan, in the men’s phab team.

On that day, the weather was sunny and warm and the sea water quite calm, which was ideal for winter swimming. The swimmers were to cover about 800 metres along the designated route from No. 2 observation deck at golden beach to Cafeteria New Beach and then land inside the golden beach.

The race began at 10 a.m. sharp. The first match was between members of the phab teams, who were accompanied by the lifeguards from Guangzhou Winter Swimming Association. Our 2 swimmers took the lead in the first 3 positions throughout the race, and there were several thousand audiences on the shore cheering enthusiastically for the visually impaired swimmers. Finally, Choy Wai Kin finished the whole distance in 13 minutes, winning the second place, and Lui Shou Yan, in 14 minutes, getting the third place.
