Hong Kong Golf Tournament for All 2016

The Hong Kong Golf Tournament for All 2016 was organized by the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, co-organized by the Golf 18 Club and sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  It was successfully held on 10 May, 2016 at Shenzhen Mission Hills Golf Club Ozaki Stadium. This was the 6^th year such a tournament was held.  The VIP guests attending this event included: Mrs Grace Chan, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Mr Lam Pui Wah, President, Mr Hung Yuk Choi, Vice President, and Mr Leung Hing Toi, the Honorary President of the Golf 18 Club.

More than 60 people, including the sighted and visually impaired golfers as well as volunteers participated in this tournament. After the starting ceremony, three sighted and two visually impaired players officially started the game. On that day, all golfers, including visually impaired golfers, completed the game within 4½ hours, which fully reflected the sportsmanship.  Mrs Grace Chan, was happy to witness the rapid progress of the visually impaired golfers.  Ms Wong Mei Ling, the visually impaired golfer, had the best result.  She completed 18 holes with a total score of 114.

The competition was conducted in accordance with the international rules of golf. The 15 visually impaired golfers who were divided into 9 groups needed to complete 18 holes within 4½ hours.  Those who completed the most number of holes and had the highest scores would be the winners.  There were prizes for the champions, first and second runner-ups.  One of the visually impaired players, Wong Mei Ling, expressed that she was happy to take part in this tournament.  She said that winning was not the most important if you had already tried your best to play.  Since she would represent Hong Kong to compete in the Blind Golf Congress in Kyushu, Japan, this was considered a warm-up training for her.  She was confident that she could achieve good results in Japan.

The visually impaired golfers completed 18 holes with high scores.  Prizes were presented to the champions, first and second runners-up for the blind and visually impaired groups.  The champion for the totally blind group was: Wong Shiu Kei who played 18 holes with the total score of 117.  The champion for the visually impaired group was Chan Yiu Wing who completed 18 holes with a total score of 127. The two winners were happy with their results and expressed their heartfelt thanks to the organizers and volunteers.

Although the weather was cloudy and unstable, it did not affect the performance of the players who completed the game within the scheduled time. After the tournament, there were prize presentations and a charity sale was also  held. Mrs Grace Chan thanked the co-organiser and sponsors for their support of this meaningful fund-raising event.
