Golf 18 Club Charity Golf for All cum the 1st Hong Kong Blind Golf Tournament
On December 7, 2011, Golf 18 Club Charity Golf for All cum the 1st Hong Kong Blind Golf Tournament was successfully held at Shenzhen Mission Hills Golf Course. At 8 a.m., 12 visually impaired golfers and more than 30 guides and volunteers of Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation boarded the coach bound for Shenzhen Mission Hills Golf Course to participate in the 18-hole Tournament. The event, with 180 participants, lasted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes were set for champion, first runner-up, second runner-up, best guide, and longest drive.
After the opening ceremony, the visually impaired golfers and their guides went to their courses and the match began. At the awards ceremony, HKBSF member Chong Sim Fung sang the famous song Shanghai Tang, which deeply impressed the audience and earned enthusiastic applauses.
Mr. Peter K.W. Sun, MH, Chairman of HKBSF remarked at the opening ceremony, “In the past 3 years, we trained more than a dozen visually impaired golfers with the assistance of devoted professional golf coaches and guides, and in the past 2 years we successfully held 2 golf tournaments for all, providing opportunities for all to exchange golf skills with the visually impaired players.”
Mrs. Grace Y.M. Chan, JP, CEO of HKBSF expressed her satisfaction with the event and said, “Today we held the 1st Hong Kong Blind Golf Tournament for several purposes. Apart from promoting friendship between the visually impaired and the able-bodied, this game will also help us select elite golfers with visual impairment for future regional and international games to win honour for Hong Kong, so this event is of great significance. In the future, we’ll train more visually impaired golfers and offer them chances to show their talents on the course.”
