The 9th Hong Kong Bowling Tournament for All cum 8th Hong Kong Blind Bowling Tournament

Sponsored by the Labour and Welfare Bureau and organised by the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation in collaboration with the Rotary International District 3450, "The 9th Hong Kong Bowling Tournament for All cum 8th Hong Kong Blind Bowling Tournament" was successfully held on Sunday, 20 January, 2020 at the Bowling Centre of the South China Athletic Association. A total of 45 teams and more than 180 people participated in this event.

This is the largest annual bowling competition in Hong Kong. Participants were from various Rotary Clubs of Rotary International District 3450 and corporations such as the Golden Gate Construction Co., Ltd, Sun Hung Kai Properties, etc. Each team consists of 3 sighted and 1 visually impaired golfer.

We were honoured to have invited Mr Wu Siu Hong, gold medalist of the World Bowling Championships, as our Event Ambassador. Mr Wu, together with two elite bowlers, Mr Wong Kwan Yuen and Mr. Li Cheuk Yin who were also gold medalists in the World Bowling Championships, officiated at the Award Presentation Ceremony. The highlight of the event was the performance of some highly difficult bowling skills by the elite bowlers.

Ms Vivien Lau, BBS JP, Vice-President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong China and Chairman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, Mr Ho Yu Cheung, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450,
Mr Roger Ngan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Mr. Kevin Chan, Chairman of the Storage Friendly Charity Foundation , Mrs Grace Chan, JP, Founder & CEO of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Mr Yau Lai Him, current President and Mr Andy Li, former president of the Kwai Chung Rotary Club were the officiating guests at the kick-off ceremony.

The result of our visually impaired athletes were as follows:
Mr Law Chun Keung won the highest score in the Men’s Individual and Ms Yuen Wing Shan was the winner in the Women’s Individual.

The winner of the visually impaired team was Ms Yuen Wing Shan, 1st runner-up Mr Law Chun Keung, and 2nd runner-up Mr Chan Tat Chung. The champion of the blind team was Mr Lau Chi Ching, 1st runner-up Mr Choi King Yu and
2nd runner-up Lai Kam Ming. The champion of the low vision team was Mr Leung Tat Wah, the second runner-up was Ms Cheung Yin Tao and the second runner-up Mr Leung Kai Kong.

Mrs Grace Chan, Founder of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation expressed that through this event, we hope to build an equal society and for members of the public to experience the inclusion of the visually impaired in sports activities.
The funds raised will be used for organising sports training courses, competitions at home and abroad for our visually impaired members and for life education talks to benefit the community.
