Co-organised with the Rotary International District 3450 and partly sponsored by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation organised the 9th Hong Kong Bowling Tournament for All cum 8th Hong Kong Blind Bowling Tournament on Sunday, 20 January, 2019 at the South China Athletic Association Bowling Centre.

 

This year, we broke the record of having the highest number of teams; a total of 45 teams and 180 participants participated in this tournament. Guests officiating at the Open Strokes Ceremony included: Ms. Vivien Lau, Vice President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress; Event Ambassador and World Bowling Champion, Mr. Wu Siu Hong; Mr. Roger Ngan, HKBSF Chairman; Dr Ho Yu Cheung, District Governor of Rotary International District 3450; Dr Chak Hing Chung, District Governor Nominee of Rotary International District 3450; Mrs. Grace Chan, HKBSF Founder & CEO; Mr Gary Chan, HKBSF Secretary; Mr. Andy Li, Chairman of the Organising Committee and former President of Rotary Club of Kwai Chung; Mr Yau Lai Him, President of the Rotary Club of Kwai Chung and Mr Chan Kai Ho, Chairman of the Store Friendly Charity Foundation.

 

The purpose of the Tournament is to promote our service mission of “Equal Participation and Sports for All”. HKBSF believes that visually impaired people can enhance their self-confidence and self-image through sports, so that they can become independent, integrate and contribute to society. Each team consisted of 4 bowlers.

 

For the first game, the sighted players had to wear a pair of simulated googles to fully experience visual impairment. The result of the blind tournament was: visually impaired group B1, Li Kwan Shing (champion), Choi King Yu (first runner up and Lai Siu Mei (2nd runner up); the visually impaired group B2 & B3, Lau Yeung Chi (champion), Chan Yiu Wing (first runner-up), Lui Kam Ping (2nd runner-up); as for the visually impaired elite group, the winners were: Chan Tat Chung (champion), Chu Wing Kam (first runner-up) and Cheung Hoi Tung (2nd runner-up).
