The Second Hong Kong Blind Football 5-A-Side Tournament was held in Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre by HKBSF on 8th September, 2012. This tournament went on smoothly thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Labour and Welfare Bureau and Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd and helpful assistance from the volunteer team.

 

Officiating guests at the Prize Presentation Ceremony included Mr. Hui Chung-shing, Herman, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman of Rehabilitation Advisory Committee of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Ms. Yeung Yuet-ngo, Manager from Sham Shui Po District Leisure Services Office of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mr. Leslie George Santos, renowned football coach in Hong Kong, Mr. Sun Kwok Wah, Chairman of Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Mrs. Grace Y.M. Chan, JP, Director and CEO of the Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, Mr. Ashley Veasey, Chief Information Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd, Ms. Fern Ngai, Head of Corporate Affairs of Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd, Ms. Chan Suk Wai,Rhoda, Head of Brand and Sponsored Project Management of Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd and Mr. Abel Tang, Head of Data Management, Hong Kong, Group Technology and Operation of Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd.                                                                                             
               

Labour and Welfare Bureau sponsored HKBSF to hold the Second Hong Kong Blind Football 5-A-Side Tournament through the Public Education Fund so as to promote the core value of UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. People with visual impairment are given equal opportunities to take part in this meaningful event and show their abilities to the community. Besides, Standard Chartered Hong Kong, a large international bank, shows its concern, encouragement and support to those sports fans with visual impairment. This event attracted over 800 people, including people with visual impairment, volunteers, staff from Standard Chartered Hong Kong and their family members and friends. All enjoyed this football match very much. The opening of the Prize Presentation Ceremony was a dragon dance performed by athletes with visual impairment and staff from Standard Chartered Hong Kong; a special arrangement of the organizing committee to promote inclusiveness in society. There were also a variety of booth games. One booth game was a journey to darkness, in which people with good eyesight were asked to finish a special journey in a dark room with the help of barrier free access facilities so as to experience the world of people with visual impairment.

 

Mr. Hui Chung-shing, Chairman of Rehabilitation Advisory Committee of the Labour and Welfare Bureau, praised highly of this event. He commented that this tournament was the fruitful result of tripartite cooperation among the government, the business sector and the NGOs. He was very glad to see those football players with visual impairment competed energetically for success.

 

Mr. Sun Kwok Wah, Chairman of Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation, said that: “Those players have improved a lot in their skills after one year’s hard training, which makes this tournament more exciting than that of last year. This tournament serves as another proof that people with visual impairment can become professionals like those with good eyesight as long as they are given equal opportunities.”

 

Mr. Ashley Veasey, Chief Information Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Ltd, expressed his happiness at the Prize Presentation Ceremony that Standard Chartered Hong Kong had kept its philosophy of “Here for Good” and had made a commitment to the society as well as to their clients and market through co-organizing this tournament with HKBSF.

 

The famous football coach, Mr. Santos,praised the visually impaired football players for their professionalism and technique and shared with them his experience in playing football. Those football players gained a lot from communications with Mr. Santos and aspired for more success next year.
