Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival 2011

On June 17-18, 2011, Hong Kong Blind Sports Federation sent about 40 volunteers and visually impaired athletes in the Dragon Boat Team to participate in the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival sponsored by Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association and Hong Kong Tourism Board. During the event our team achieved impressive results.

On the first day was held the Adaptive Paddling Invitation Race. In this race the standard dragon boat race course, 250 metres, was adopted. Altogether there were two rounds and the team with the shortest total time would win. Among the teams most were from service units for the physically handicapped in Hong Kong, such as the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf, but there was also one that had travelled all the way from Jiangmen, Guangdong province, the Brothers Dragon Boat Team.

In the first round the competition was quite intense. The Brothers was in the lead since the very beginning and won the first place by 6 seconds. Our team competed with the team of Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council for the second place but lost by less than 1 second and got the third place.

Before the second round our coach rearranged our team members to get better results. Consequently, in this round our team was well-matched with the Brothers but unfortunately lost by 2 seconds and got the second place.

In this race, the Brothers won the first place in both rounds and became the champion, our team was the first runner-up, and the team of Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council was the second runner-up. It is worth mentioning that our team ranked first among all Hong Kong teams in the Adaptive Paddling Invitation Race.
