The Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School and HKBSF jointly organized the Kowloon Region Primary School Track and Field Competition and Fun Day with the Visually Impaired at the Sham Shui Po Sports

The Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School and HKBSF jointly organized the Kowloon Region Primary School Track and Field Competition and Fun Day with the Visually Impaired at the Sham Shui Po Sports Ground on 17th May, 2014.  The Sports event aimed at providing Kowloon primary students and the visually impaired members an opportunity to share the fun in sport competition.

There were around 500 students from more than 10 schools participating in the event. HKBSF invited 8 marathon athletes to present awards to the students on that day.  Through interaction with the visually impaired, the students might learn to cherish what they had already owned.

Though it rained in the morning, the rain gradually weakened one hour before the competitions.  When the games officially started at 8.00 am, it became sunny again. Students were all excited and did their utmost in the competitions. The spectators included students, teachers and parents who were very much involved in cheering to support the participants.

To let more people know how the visually impaired can run, our visually impaired athletes demonstrated 400-metre run with their sighted guide runners.  After the games, our athletes were given the role of award presenters and shared the joy with the prize-winners.

Through this event, students and teachers were able to get to know the visually impaired athletes better, which were significant for the society to increase awareness and attention to the visually impaired, and to understand that the blind can also be talented in sports.  If given the chance, they can present Hong Kong to participate in the Paralympic Games and win honours for Hong Kong.
