Positioning by Clock Direction
In showing the directions to people with visual impairment, never use “this way” or “that way” as it is very unclear and imprecise. The proper way is to use the method of positioning by means of clock direction.
The method of positioning by means of clock direction is a system designed for the visually impaired to indicate the directions. The principle is very simple. Just imagine your visually impaired friend as the center of a clock. Right in front of your friend is twelve o’clock and right after him/her is six o’clock. For example, there is a traffic light pole at your three o’clock direction. In this way, the visually impaired can know the directions more easily and precisely.
Similarly, we can use this method to tell people with visual impairment the location of food and objects. For example, we can indicate the location of food: vegetables in twelve o’clock direction, beef in three o’clock direction, fish in six o’clock direction, pork in nine o’clock direction, etc.
